All of America’s great Presidents have been commemorated on our currency, our coins, on stamps, monuments, plaques, etc. This is the way Americans express gratitude for unselfish service to our country.
In some cases, past presidents have not stepped up to the responsibility that job requires, and even in those cases, although we suffered for the insult and lack of representation from the person in the office, we have still shown respect for the office they disgraced.
George Washington, our nation's first President, Independent Party member, founding father, and patriot leader of the victory in the American Revolution! After victory had been finalized over Great Britain in 1783, Washington resigned rather than seizing power, proving his opposition to dictatorship and his commitment to the emerging American political ideology of REPUBLICANISM. Washington was a member of the Independent Party, and although never officially joining the Federalist Party, he supported it's programs. Washington's "Farewell Address" was an influential primer on republican virtue and a stern warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars. Washington's final 1799 will, specified that all his slaves be set free.
Thomas Jefferson, third President, Democratic-Republican Party, founding father, principle author of the Declaration of Independence (1776). Jefferson envisioned America as a great "Empire of Liberty" that would promote the ideology of REPUBLICANISM.
Abe Lincoln, sixteenth President, Republican and responsible for pulling our nation through one of it's darkest times. He championed the victory in the battle against slavery.
Alexander Hamilton, a Federalist Party member, founding father, first Secretary of the Treasury and leader of the Constitutional Convention. When an extra-marital affair with Maria Reynolds became public, Hamilton resigned from office in 1795 and returned to the practice of law in New York.
Andrew Jackson, our seventh President member and founder of the Democratic Party. He is praised as a protector of popular democracy and individual liberty for American citizens, but criticized for his support for slavery and the Indian removal. Jackson was nicknamed "Old Hickory" because of his toughness and aggressive personality that produced numerous duels, some fatal.
Ulysses Grant, our eighteenth President, Republican Party, Union army general, led the North through the Civil War.
Ben Franklin, not affiliated with any political party, genius inventor, political theorist and leading author of the Constitution.
William McKinley, Jr. twenty fifth President, Republican Party, led the U.S. to a 90 day victory in the Spanish American War.
Grover Cleveland was the ONLY President to serve two non-consecutive terms (in 1885 and 1893). This Democrat president's battles for political reform and fiscal conservatism made him an icon for American Conservatives. As a reformer he worked indefatigably against political corruption, patronage, and bossism.
The Silver Eagle Proofs are my favorite collectible coins. Even though no president is commemorated on the coin, the “Walking Liberty” depiction of Lady Liberty is what makes the coin so beautiful to me. The offering was abruptly canceled for 2009, the first year of the Obama administration, to the dismay of many collectors. The US Mint explained that it was legally required to produce the bullion version of the American Silver Eagle in quantities sufficient to meet public demand. They were not under any legal requirement to produce the collectible proof or uncirculated versions of the coins. Because demand for silver bullion coins apparently outweighed production, the US Mint sourced all incoming blank supplies towards the production of bullion coins.
Obama's policies have put more people on welfare than any president before him, so this placement is most appropriate. President Obama’s failed policies have raised the number of Americans on food stamps to 47%! Unlike the Nobel Peace Prize, for which he did nothing, this is an "honor" for which he himself proudly claims credit. Obama and his Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack obviously see the massive food stamp increase to 47% as a PLUS for the economy AND for the Obama administration: "Well, obviously, it's putting people to work. Which is why we're going to have some interesting things in the course of the forum this morning. Later this morning, we're going have a press conference with Secretary Mavis and Secretary Chu to announce something that's never happened in this country - something that we think is exciting in terms of job growth. I should point out, when you talk about the SNAP program or the food stamp program, you have to recognize that it's also an economic stimulus. Every dollar of SNAP benefits generates $1.84 in the economy in terms of economic activity. If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, ship it. All of those are jobs. It's the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times."
This is the TRUE definition and just another example of the Democrat motto “I am going to piss on your leg, and WE are going to call it rain”!
